Grégory Poussier has been sculpting for 23 years. He began working with sculpture alongside his early career as an industrial engineer. In 2009, he held his first exhibitions and quickly gained local recognition in the Rhône-Alpes region. Yet he felt he had not yet reached the level of the artists he admired or the galleries he aspired to collaborate with. He therefore set himself a ten‑year period to grow, refine his practice, and prepare to become a professional sculptor. During this time, he withdrew entirely from the exhibition circuit and returned to the studio.
In 2020, the countdown came to an end. He left his position as CTO and committed himself fully to sculpture… only for the world to go into lockdown three weeks later. Like everyone else, he found himself forced to wait, eager to begin the new chapter he had prepared for so long.
Learn from your predecessors
Grégory studied at the Beaux-Arts in Grenoble, France, first with Jean‑Pierre PHILIPPI and later with Cyrille ANDRE. He refined his skills in private workshops dedicated to modeling, ceramics, and stone carving, and eventually continued his training in Carrara, Italy, with Michele MONFRONI, where he learned marble cutting. He later studied portrait techniques with Philippe FARAUT and deepened his understanding of anatomy in Rome under Brian BOOTH CRAIG and David SIMON.
Today, Grégory collaborates with the ILHAT and BARTHELEMY art foundries to produce his bronzes. He creates the originals, molds, and wax casts, while the foundries handle the bronze casting, chasing, and patinas.
A precise search for anatomical plausibility
Twenty years of sculpting have allowed Grégory Poussier to refine his mastery of anatomy and physiognomy. This pursuit of verisimilitude is not an end in itself, but a foundation for storytelling. Grace, tension in movement, and the elegance of a posture can only be conveyed when the viewer is not distracted by inaccuracies or approximations. For this reason, Grégory will refine a pose until its expression is fully revealed. He will rework a face tirelessly, seeking the moment when a genuine, moving personality emerges – one capable of expressing a wide range of emotions.
Contemporary figurative sculpture
Clearly positioned within the modern figurative movement, Grégory Poussier draws inspiration from contemporary sculptors such as Philippe Morel, Christophe Charbonnel, Nicolas Lavarenne, Bruno Catalano, Sabin Howard, Alex Oliver, Brian Craig, Coderch & Malavia, Michael James Talbot, and Richard MacDonald. Heirs to a form of academic sculpture, these artists renew the genre by anchoring their practice firmly in the concerns and aesthetics of their time.
Grégory’s work explores Humanity and seeks to elevate what is noble in the human condition. Grace and elegance are central to his approach; he works closely with his models to discover poses that convey both uplift and grounding.
He works in terracotta, marble, and bronze in his studio, Le Créatoire, located in the Lauragaise countryside between Toulouse and Carcassonne. There, he also teaches modeling, patina, molding, and even painting techniques.
Sculptures that speak of literature, ancestral myths… and Sublime Makers
In his first decade as a sculptor, Grégory Poussier drew inspiration from literature, creating works based on myths and iconic figures from our shared cultural imagination. This body of work, gathered under the title Humanities, includes pieces inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cazotte’s The Devil in Love, Ulysses and Calypso from Homer’s Odyssey, Julien Sorel and Madame de Rênal from Stendhal’s The Red and the Black, The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy, Oedipus on the Road by Henry Bauchau, Baudelaire’s The Albatross, as well as numerous mythological characters.
For the past ten years, Grégory has focused on developing a deeply personal theme. He shapes invisible artisans – beings who work behind the scenes to inspire our sense of wonder by crafting what is most Sublime in nature. From this vision, the series The Sublime Makers was born.
The Weathers of the Sublime – Silent figures of revealed beauty

“The Makers of the Sublime do not invent miracles – they reveal them. They bring to light what would otherwise go unnoticed: a glimmer on a cloud, the silence of a bird’s flight, the breath of suspended light. They act in secret, on the threshold of the visible, where vertigo begins.
They work to awaken what is often called the oceanic feeling – that expanded moment when the self dissolves into something larger, when we no longer know where we end and the world begins. A quiet merging, a tender surrender to the immensity of being.
And then comes wonder. Not naïve surprise, but lucid revelation. In the gaze that slows, in the heart that allows itself to be pierced, a moment of transcendence emerges. In that suspended instant, the invisible becomes tangible.
To create, to contemplate, to marvel – these are sibling acts. Each one reaches toward a light that cannot be possessed, only grazed.
That is where we place our art: in that fragile interval between the beauty of the world and the human desire to dissolve into it.”

Słowo o artyście
Grégory Poussier rzeźbi od 23 lat. Zaczął pracować z rzeźbą równolegle do swojej wczesnej kariery jako inżynier w przemyśle. W 2009 roku zorganizował pierwsze wystawy i szybko zdobył lokalne uznanie w regionie Rodan-Alpy. Mimo to czuł, że nie osiągnął jeszcze poziomu artystów, których podziwiał, ani galerii, z którymi pragnął współpracować. Wyznaczył więc sobie dziesięcioletni okres na rozwój, udoskonalenie warsztatu i przygotowanie się do zostania profesjonalnym rzeźbiarzem. W tym czasie całkowicie wycofał się z obiegu wystawienniczego i wrócił do pracy w pracowni.
W 2020 roku odliczanie dobiegło końca. Zrezygnował ze stanowiska dyrektora technicznego i w pełni poświęcił się rzeźbie… zaledwie trzy tygodnie przed tym, jak świat pogrążył się w lockdownie. Jak wszyscy, został zmuszony do czekania — choć był już gotów rozpocząć nowy rozdział, do którego przygotowywał się przez tak długi czas.
Uczyć się od poprzedników
Grégory studiował w École des Beaux-Arts w Grenoble we Francji, najpierw u Jean‑Pierre’a PHILIPPI, a następnie u Cyrille’a ANDRÉ. Doskonalił swoje umiejętności w prywatnych pracowniach poświęconych modelowaniu, ceramice i rzeźbieniu w kamieniu, a później kontynuował naukę w Carrarze we Włoszech u Michele MONFRONIEGO, gdzie opanował techniki obróbki marmuru. Następnie studiował sztukę portretu u Philippe’a FARAUTA i pogłębiał wiedzę z anatomii w Rzymie pod kierunkiem Briana BOOTH CRAIGA i Davida SIMONA.
Dziś Grégory współpracuje z odlewniami ILHAT i BARTHELEMY przy realizacji swoich brązów. Tworzy oryginały, formy i odlewy wosku, natomiast odlewnie zajmują się odlewaniem brązu, cyzelowaniem i patynowaniem.
